1.1 hutong
hutongs are the tiny old streets in beijing. the oldest houses of beijing can be found here. we took our tour the old school way.

steep stairs leading to the top of the tower
the emperor would climb those stairs each new year to toll this bell.
1.2 prince's mansion
prince gong's mansion. this place was also once home to one of emperor qianlong's favorite eunuch - Heshen. this guy was pretty corrupt and had an extravagant lifestyle. it is widely said that Heshen laid the foundation for further collapse and corruption of the qing dynasty.

2.2 ming tombs
there are 13 ming tombs located 50km outside of the city center of beijing. this is where the 13 emperors from the ming dynasty are buried. this one is the only one that is open to the public.

3 forbidden city
3.1 palace
this was taken on the street adjacent to the entrance to the palace. i am only moments away from being shocked.

ok, this is now the second entrance... are we there yet?

you can find messes like these in many areas of beijing... but... you'll see... the best will get better.

5 antique city
5.1 pan jia yuan
pan jia yuan antique market... a day of antiques, knick-knacks, and bargaining...
i ended up buying this skirt... she asked for 280rmb (about $35) and i paid 100rmb (more like $12)... some may say that i got ripped off.... anyway, this skirt weighs about 4 pounds.
